What we measure
We publish two kinds of data, side by side:
- On-chain: how many coins exist and how long they have been held, the price at which they last moved and the profit or loss they carry, coins moving into and out of exchanges, mining, fees, staking and the tokens on Ethereum.
- Markets: prices and volume, futures open interest, funding and liquidations, options flow, order books, the daily flows of the US spot bitcoin and ether ETFs, and the bitcoin that public companies report holding.
You can read them as charts with their history, dashboards, free tools and plain-English guides, set alerts on them, or take them away through the API, spreadsheets and MCP for AI assistants.
Where the numbers come from
Nodes we run
We run full nodes for Bitcoin (Bitcoin Core, every block since January 2009), Ethereum (an Erigon archive node with the Lighthouse consensus client, every block since July 2015), Litecoin, Dogecoin and Bitcoin Cash, and a Lightning node that reads the public channel graph. Every on-chain chart is calculated from our own copy of the chain.
Market data we collect
Prices, trades, order books, futures, funding, open interest, liquidations and options are gathered by our own collectors from exchanges’ public APIs, among them Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, OKX, Bybit, Deribit and Hyperliquid. Each chart names the venues it uses.
Published files and filings
US spot ETF figures come from each issuer’s own daily holdings files, and the bitcoin held by public companies from their filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (EDGAR).
Our methodology sets out the sources by type, including the official economic statistics some charts use, and explains how each kind of measure is calculated.
How we keep the numbers honest
Every chart explains itself
Beneath each chart is what it shows, why it matters and how to read it, where the data comes from and how it is calculated, with its units, coverage and limits. The same methods are published as JSON in our metric catalogue.
Fresh data, honest delays
Live charts run to the latest completed UTC hour, and daily charts show the open day as a labelled partial. When a source is late or a check fails, the chart says it is delayed or held rather than passing old figures off as current.
Nothing filled in
We never invent values. When data is missing, the period stays empty instead of being filled with zeros or estimates. Where a figure is a model or an estimate, the chart says so and explains how it is made.
Organisations, never individuals
We name only organisations, such as exchanges, funds, miners and companies, from public information like the addresses exchanges publish as their own. We do not track or profile any individual’s wallet.
Who runs CryptoKeyhole
CryptoKeyhole is run from the United Kingdom by an individual trading as CryptoKeyhole. It is independent: no exchange, fund or token issuer owns it.
The site runs on our own servers in the United Kingdom. It is a research tool: it does not give investment advice, hold or move assets, or connect to wallets.
How it is paid for
CryptoKeyhole is paid for by subscriptions. Free charts need no account; Plus, Pro and API & Team add finer resolutions, today’s readings on the premium charts, more alerts, downloads and API access, as pricing sets out.
Free charts and data are licensed under CC BY 4.0: anyone may reuse them, commercially or not, with a credit and a link to CryptoKeyhole, as our methodology explains.
There is no advertising on the site. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising or send marketing email. An account needs only a username and a password, not an email address, and payments are taken by Stripe, so we never see your card number.
How to reach us
Email [email protected] about the data or a correction, your account, the API and API & Team licensing, or press. The contact page says what to include. On X we are @Crypto_Keyhole.
