Why use it. Follow the pace of canonical block production. How to read it. Compare the same resolution: a monthly count covers more time than a daily count. A proved empty period is zero; missing history is not.

Calculation. Count canonical blocks once, assigning each whole block to its UTC period by its header timestamp.
