What Plus adds

Plus adds the rest of each card: venue detail of the liquidations, taker flow on spot and perpetual markets, the Coinbase premium, the net position of Hyperliquid's largest accounts, exchange flows from our nodes hour by hour and smaller transfers. It also adds every other coin we cover, the archive of past moves with what followed similar ones an hour and a day later, and a browser notification within a minute of a move starting.

Every coin's sharp moves

How we spot a sharp move

Every minute, about ten seconds after it closes, we read the last trade of each coin's most traded USDT perpetual (Binance's where it lists one, otherwise Bybit's, OKX's or Bitget's) from our own collection. A move opens when the price has fallen or risen, within 15 minutes, 1 hour or 4 hours, by at least four times the coin's own recent volatility scaled to that window, and by at least 1%, 1.5% or 2.5%. Recent volatility is the standard deviation of the coin's five-minute returns over the 7 days that ended 4 hours earlier, so a move never raises its own bar.

The move starts at the high (for a fall) or the low (for a rise) inside that window, and it follows the price while it keeps making new extremes. It ends once an hour passes without a new extreme or the price gives back half of the move. One move, one record: it opens when it starts, updates while it runs and closes when it ends.

What our data saw is read for the move's own window, from its start to its extreme, and for transfers and old coins also the hour before. These are what our data shows; we do not claim a cause our data does not show. Before 14 October 2026 (Bitcoin, Ethereum and Chainlink) or 28 October 2026 (other coins) the archive is built from five-minute prices, so those moves are timed to five minutes.

Where the numbers come from

Prices, liquidations, open interest, funding and options come from our own collection of the venues' public market data; ETF flows from the issuers' own daily files; large transfers, old coins and exchange flows from our own Bitcoin and Ethereum nodes, with organisations named from our own labels and every other party left unlabelled. Liquidations are what the venues report (Binance reports at most one per contract per second, so its totals are lower bounds). ETF flows are the day's figure, which arrives after the US trading day closes. The free figures on this page are licensed CC BY 4.0: credit CryptoKeyhole with a link.
