How much of each claim has come back

Each bar is one class of claim, on one scale to 120% of the claim. Every step of ink is one distribution, darkest first; the gold line is a claim repaid in full at its value on the day the firm went bankrupt. FTX's customers passed it with the fifth distribution on 31 Jul 2026; Celsius creditors are at about seven tenths of theirs.

FTX: five distributions

FTX's plan took effect on 3 Jan 2025, and the FTX Recovery Trust pays creditors in US dollars through BitGo, Kraken or Payoneer. A creditor is paid in a distribution only after logging in, passing identity checks, filing tax forms and choosing one of those providers before its record date. The four distributions the trust put a size on come to more than $9.7 billion; its releases give each class's share as a cumulative percentage.

Celsius: four distributions

Celsius's plan took effect on 31 Jan 2024. Its Plan Administrator pays eligible creditors in bitcoin or US dollars and files a report on distributions every quarter. By 31 Oct 2025 about $3.10 billion of the $3.17 billion then eligible had reached creditors, 97.7% (Plan Administrator's sixth status report, 5 Dec 2025). Later amounts come from what the litigation administrators recover, such as the settlement with Tether.

Genesis: paid when its plan took effect

  • About $2.2 billion went to Gemini Earn users in May and June 2024, before the plan took effect.
  • On 2 Aug 2024 Genesis distributed about $4 billion in digital assets and US dollars. Bitcoin creditors got 51% of their coins back in kind, worth 166% of their claim's dollar value at the petition date; ether creditors 66% in kind, worth 153%; dollar creditors 100%.
  • About $200 million was to follow for creditors owed other coins, and further distributions depend on what the estate recovers, how the remaining claims are settled and its litigation.

Mt. Gox: the repayments and the deadline

Mt. Gox went bankrupt in February 2014 and has been in civil rehabilitation since 2018. Its trustee repays creditors in bitcoin and bitcoin cash through designated exchanges. Most of it went out in July and August 2024; the deadline for the rest has been moved a year at a time since.

  1. Repayments in bitcoin and bitcoin cash will start from the beginning of July 2024, exchange by exchange. Trustee's notice

  2. First repayments in bitcoin and bitcoin cash, through some of the designated exchanges. Trustee's notice

  3. The base, early lump-sum and intermediate repayments are largely done for creditors who completed the steps; the deadline moves from 31 Oct 2024 to 31 Oct 2025. Trustee's notice

  4. The deadline moves to 31 Oct 2026. Trustee's notice

  5. The deadline moves to 31 Oct 2027. Trustee's notice

How we keep it

  • Every figure comes from the estate's own administrator: the FTX Recovery Trust's releases, the Celsius Plan Administrator's notices, reports and help pages, and the Mt. Gox trustee's notices. For Genesis we use the figures its counsel published, as its administrator's site refuses automated reading.
  • We check the tables against new notices by hand. Once a day we also read the FTX trust's newsroom and the Mt. Gox trustee's list of notices, and flag at the top of this page any notice newer than the tables.
  • Amounts are as stated, in US dollars, never revalued. Percentages are of each claim's value at the petition date, as each plan measures them.
  • No balances on chain: none of the administrators publishes the addresses it pays from, and we don't use other firms' guesses at estate wallets.
