Questions

What is RSI?

The relative strength index compares the size of recent gains with recent losses on a scale of 0 to 100. With the usual 14 periods, it rises towards 100 when a coin has mostly closed higher and falls towards 0 when it has mostly closed lower.

What do oversold and overbought mean?

A reading below 30 is commonly called oversold and above 70 overbought: the price has moved a long way in one direction for its recent history. It describes momentum, not value; strong trends can stay overbought or oversold for weeks.

Why do the timeframes disagree?

Each column measures a different stretch of history: 14 hours, 14 four-hour blocks, 14 days or 14 weeks. A coin can be oversold on the hourly chart after a sharp drop while its weekly RSI still shows a longer uptrend.

What does the MACD column show?

Whether the daily MACD line (the 12-day exponential average of closes less the 26-day one) sits above or below its own 9-day average. A crossing above is often read as momentum turning up, a crossing below as momentum fading.

How is this calculated?

From the closes of each coin’s own CryptoKeyhole price index. RSI uses Wilder’s smoothing: the first average gain and loss are simple means of 14 changes, then each updates as 13 parts of the previous average plus one part of the new change. A missing close restarts the sequence, and only closed periods count.
