Why use it. Log prices turn percentage moves into equal steps, the scale long-run models are fitted on. How to read it. Each step of about 0.69 is a doubling of the price.

Calculation. Exact definition: The natural logarithm of the admitted daily closing BTC/USD quote, in log(USD/BTC). A rise of 1 means the quote grew by a factor of e (about 2.718), and a fall of 1 means it shrank by that factor. Non-positive or missing quotes stay undefined, with no carry or interpolation. Day D uses the following 00:00 UTC quote; earlier quotes are retrospective closes with unknown publication time, venue and vintage, later ones keep their actual clocks, values are provisional and revisable, and the open day is a labelled partial. log(a if a > 0, otherwise undefined): the natural (base e) logarithm of each UTC day's positive admitted ending-boundary BTC/USD quote. Computed over the full retained history before viewport selection, with existing 40-digit Decimal arithmetic.
